The Cables, our exciting zip line tours

Los Cables are two circuits (X-Tremos and Ultras) of zip lines. One crosses the San Buenaventura Valley, and the other reaches the tip of the bay with Lake Atitlán and its volcanoes as background. They offer a diversity of adventures.

Each zip-line is a different experience: some are as high as 60 m (196 ft.), others have superb vistas of forests, waterfalls, volcanoes, and the lake itself. At the end of each circuit there is an optional ropes course.

Cables X-Tremos: Q250

Cables Ultra X-Tremos: Q375

• Price includes all the Reserve's attractions: Butterflies Geodome, nature trails, hanging bridges, play grounds, private lake shore, Visitor Center.

Safety First

Given that this is an extreme activity, the Cables X-Tremos are remarkably safe. Our guides are conscientiously trained and all our equipment (harnesses, carabineers, slings, trolleys, etc.) has US and European certification. The design and construction of the zip trek followed international standards for safety and has been tested with loads that provide wide margins of safety.

We have a trial cable where you can try your brakes.

Preguntas más frecuentes / FAQ

¿Es seguro? / It it safe?

Bring it on! Yes! As long as you’re neither: - ignoring our security instructions - heavier than 14,000 lbs (7.26 metric tonnes) This means that well trained, adolescent African bush elephant could go for it. Our gear is certified in the USA as well as the EU, and like our facilities, they receive permanent maintenance.

¿Qué debo llevar puesto? / What should I wear?

Ropa casual y zapatos cómodos. No usar sandalias.

Casual clothing and comfortable shoes. Don't wear sandals or flip-flops.

¿Hay restricciones de edad? / Are there any age restrictions?

Yes, you’ve got to be older than 2 and younger than 85 years old. Those are the ages covered by our insurance. If you can climb up, you can glide down. Children can choose to go in tandem with a guide.

What is riding in tandem with a guide?

It’s being safely attached to a guide who will brake for you in the cables. This is especially useful for children or people who prefer to solely sit back and enjoy the ride.

How long and difficult is the trail to reach the zip-lines?

The gradual climb takes about 20-25 minutes. It depends on how much time our guides stop for you to catch your breath and/or admire the forest. The trail is 450 m (1500 ft) long and has a vertical ascent of 80 m (260 ft). For the Ultras, you continue on the trail for 10 more minutes. It’s not too bad.

What do you see on the way to the zip-lines?

A lot. You’ll go by our coffee grove, 5 hanging bridges that cross valleys and rivers, the deciduous forest and an ancient bridle trail. This same trail leads to the Ultras, whose own trail has the forest on one side and a magnificent rock wall on the other.

¿Que se ve desde los cables X-Tremos? / What about the X-Tremos one?

The X-Tremos are our classic ride. It has spectacular views and is a shorter hike than the Ultras. It is also a great introduction to zip-lining, as the cables are generally shorter and not as high in the air.

¿Que se ve desde los cables Ultras? / What about the Utras one?

The same as from the X-Tremos and in addition, you can clearly see the volcanoes of Atitlán, Tolimán and Cerro de Oro, as well as the towns of Panajachel, San Antonio, San Lucas and Santiago. The rocky outcrop with magueys, cactus and similar is impressive. There, with luck, you can see red tailed hawks, gray herons and families of coatis and foxes. On cable C, you can see the valley of San Buenaventura.

Distancia de un cable a otro / Distance between cables

¿Da miedo? / It is scary?

Maybe so, but it's worth it. Our guides are used to dealing with skittish zip line enthusiasts, and we have an 8m mini-cable that is used for trials before you try the cables into the cables. We encourage you to experience the cables, but you can otherwise walk the trails and see all the attractions of the Reserve. - Don't let the fear of what might happen make nothing happen. - Thinking does not defeat fear, but action does.
